Since my parents and bro were out for a holiday when we returned from our Tokyo honeymoon, I decided to make dinner everyday at home for Dan and our friends. Dan experimented with the sharkfin wintermelon on Monday. We had a hard time scooping the seeds out. Kun was there too, but only for a while as he only dropped by to pass us some games. And we had that with pork as soup. I cooked for Waichin when she came over to my place for dinner on Tuesday. There were honey chicken wings, watercress soup, chye sim with enoki mushrooms, chicken spring rolls and eggs. Wednesday I made a very nice soup! Potato + carrots + chicken! Yum yum! Accompanied with Xiao bai cai and luncheon meat. I had a hard time getting the meat out from the can as I only opened the can from one side. Lesson learnt! A pity Jo and Winston couldn't come. Yesterday we had the most number of guests. Kunze, Angie and Yanfen were there to eat with us. Soup was sharkfin wintermelon with carrot and corn (yes, I took the corns out of the cob one by one), and the sides were prawn har gow (which I didn't take), luncheon meat, vege spring rolls and cabbage with fish fillet. Truth be told, I was a bit disappointed that no one came with gifts as a gesture. Even if there's no gifts, the least I would like to have are words like "you've done a good job!" , "the food was nice!" or "I like what you have made for me!" after their meals. And by gifts, I mean stuff like fruits, bottled drinks and whatever they are so that we can all enjoy and share after the dinner. =) I was very happy when Yanfen told me that the cabbage I made had a homely taste. It tasted just like how her mother would cook. I really appreciate it much and for that I excuse her (even though she used my fridge to chill her durian puffs and top-up her water in her bottle without me knowing-kidding! =P). She even asked me how I stir fried them! And so, I did tell her what I've done and after saying it I got a comment from Kunze that I should have covered the vege while it's cooking for a better 'softer' taste. But, I'm just following my mother so that in future I get to eat my mom's standard? Ok ok, I know you meant well and I did say that I want to eat what my mom has been cooking 'cos it feels so so so so so good! Thanks. Like what Chin and Yf said, 'home cooked food are the best!' and by home food it refers to our mothers' cooking. Yeah, I know your mother does her vege the way you said, so as long as you know how to make the exact same dish for your kids in future, or even for us when we drop by at your new place, I won't say a thing. I definitely appreciate whatever the friend is cooking. And as a personal record, I do bring things to friends' homes if I am invited over for a meal. Even if I didn't bring anything at that point of time, I make sure I send a gift to you a few days later. And no no no no, I am not blaming my friends for not bringing anything over. I am just blogging what I feel. I am just a bit disappointed and that's all. =) And no.... I don't want any gifts after you guys read this. Telling me 'thanks' will do. I know you all did say thanks when you guys left. But.... were the food really okay? I don't know if I'm asking too much. You see, after every dinner I keep asking Daniel if what I made was horrible. Is that why our guests are not telling me that they were nice? And Dan would tell me that they taste good but I am just not satisfied. I keep thinking to myself... "where have I done wrong? I am sure that the taste was similar to my mom's!" And I think Dan does not know what else to say to keep me sane. He just wash the dishes while I keep haunting him. (and FYI, my mom's cooking has been highly raved by guests. Although I'm starting out slow, but I definitely know that the veges taste like hers! Even Dan agrees!) I personally think that the soups were great too! There's this light cooling refreshing distinct taste in them. I can't believe I can type so much on just cooking and personal opinions. Maybe Jo should taste my cooking and tell me what's different from my mother's. Tsk. (she's a fan of my mother's cooking) The potato soup is my best! 18 Jun 2008 ![]() Me with supporting documents and marriage cert - all in the envelope.
20 Jun 2008 "So, what is it?" I asked him as I ran out of the room. "It's... a big damn cockroach." Murphy's Law - just when you think that you can devote 1 hour to sticking Swarovski crystals on your nails just for your special day.... and because of all the hoo-haa we only managed to sleep after 2am. O_O 21 Jun 2008 Unloaded our barang barang, R&R till Winston and Angie came. Capturing the mundane moments of Jo, Kun and Dan. ![]() Even the cat's bored. Yawn!
And then it was time for dinner. ![]() Just bathed, changed, ready for dinner.
![]() Me with Baby Jo.
Proof of my overwhelmed happiness. ![]() Santa Claus Kun! Skinny one!
After the sumptuous dinner, I signaled to Winston to start our 'plan'. Gelare was overwhelmed with people. Plan suspended temporarily. Walked back to our suite and I thought of an idea. Whispered to Dan who then acted as a messenger to Winston. *grin* We 'escorted' Jo back to the room while Dan and Winston carry out the plan and went to buy us some Mcdonald's ice cream. (Winston and I gone through much planning and discussion on this! And it's true that he was stressed about the proposal. He knew he had to execute it fast.) This maybe a long video to some of you, but it shows what happened before the proposal! =) I can watch this over and over so many times just cos I was the instigator. I 'pressured' Winston to propose to Jo since he had bought the ring. Proposing to Jo in front of her good friend will be a truly memorable experience for her. =) It's an intimate, private event that's hassle-free. Look at Jo looking so unaware and innocent while the 3 of us were just observing her expressions.
When the man goes down on his knee. Winston's so brave to be able to propose to her in front of us. =) And I was so happy that everything went well and for Jo that I go Yay Yay Yay so much in the video. It feels so great to be part of this happy event! It's a double happiness weekend! ![]() Mr Yip and soon to be Mrs Yip.
Her proposal ring's in a heart shape. 3 diamonds. The ring fits her to a T while we were at Citigems! ![]() The supposed to be my bride's bouquet.
Somehow, I am starting to have a not so good impression of the way how Golden Horse Awards handle things. Their service is kind of doubtful. And they have hidden charges which you must ask before you order anything. Anyway, back to the happy stuff! 22 Jun 2008 Murphy's Law - my menstrual headache came and I had to take panadol to ease the pain. Make up artist came, VG and PG came shortly after. ![]() My parents and I.
And our Yanfen... she just had to capture all the weird pictures. ![]() I so want to puke. My camera is 'corrupted'. When Yanfen came to the suite, she told me she was overwhelmed by the many people who are video recording and taking pictures of me. There were a total of 4 professionals with their video cameras and digital cameras. Truth be told, I felt like a star. We had to take photos to calm myself down before the march in. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Back of my head.
Murphy's Law - Daniel took a long time in coming to fetch me from the suite. I don't know what went wrong that delayed him. We were supposed to sign on 1245pm but it dragged to 115pm instead. I don't really like that. ![]() When the song filled up the room.. and everyone stood to welcome the groom and the bride.
The supposed to be my bouquet of flowers 'disappeared' (cos it was rotting somewhere) and upon request of Yanfen, she passed me the bouquet and took pictures of it. Oh, by the way, Yanfen was the lady who reached out and caught this bouquet when I did the bouquet toss. =D Bouquet toss is so fun! ![]()
And then we had my birthday cake pushed in by Kunze (who tried so hard not to let the candles go poof). Everyone sang a birthday song for me and I was so so so so so happy. This is the biggest birthday celebration for me. Thanks people... for making this event a success. Dan did a short speech after I cut the cake. =) That was sweet of him. He also thanked the guests who came on time. What a brilliant way to disturb us! =X Everyone was laughing. =)
![]() Still as handsome as always, Naifeng and lovely Fion.
Flo (my VG) told me that Winston is a very responsible groomsman. He oversaw a lot of details and followed them through. I can see that too! He even pulled/pushed the chair for me! And thanks for coming up with the idea for teasing us ah. Kun did a good job too but he had to attend to Angie cos she was having bad menstrual cramps. =( The whole event was a success, thanks to the help of all of you!!! =) ![]() Back to the room, need a change of clothes! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() :) ![]() Hair again. ![]() ![]() See the cystal hair piece? ![]() ![]() Dan took off his coat! ![]() ![]() After the bath, it was time to unwrap presents and count the amount of ang bao money!!! ![]() ![]() Look at the amount of gifts! ![]() The monkey's creative gift. ![]() ![]() Why pig pig? ![]() Cool, can hang accessories! ![]() We love this the most! Musical globe! ![]() Kun and Angie's gifts. Wabbit! ![]() Wai Chin's creative gift toy!! She said that this pet will always live as long as there's battery. -.- ![]() There's handphone accessories! ![]() ![]() But what's inside is kind of creepy for both of us. Dan said it looks scary too! Especially the music coming out from it... lol. And for dinner, we gave them a treat at Hei Sushi. See how entertaining Winston is? And watch that instant when he frowned. LOL. Classic and priceless. ![]() My first round of sushi. ![]() The boys. ![]() ![]() Winston Yip!! LOL. ![]() ![]() ![]() Tired! Exhausted, everyone was! ![]() ![]() ![]() Mr and Mrs Chua. Watch this if you want. The 6 of us stayed at Aranda Country Club for the last night and the next day the newly married couple flew to Tokyo for their honeymoon. (Kunze and Angie took off on the 23rd) Tokyo's post coming after this!
